Skiing on a Budget

Since there are “off seasons”, especially before and after the peak season, it is possible to find a skiing holiday on a budget. These off seasons are different in various parts of the world, so you have to either decide where you want to go and then check their packages for various good offers, or else you can know what your budget will allow and then go looking for a resort that will fit into that category. Having a flexible holiday schedule will benefit you greatly.

It is reported that resort bookings are down 20% in 2009, so that means excellent ski deals such as free round-trip airport transportation, free nights, lower room prices including up to 50% off midweek, etc. You can also ask if there is a better rate or something less expensive when you go to make a reservation.

Consider staying close to instead of on the premises of a specific lodge, and you will save money and can take convenient transportation to the slopes. An apartment is less expensive than a hotel, plus you can save money on meals because you have a kitchen. If you fly during the week, you will get a lower fare, and airport shuttles can prove to be much less expensive than renting your own vehicle.

If you are planning a family holiday, look into some of the big US resorts such as Big Sky, Montana, and the nearby Moonlight Basin, where there is no skiing charge for children age 10 and under.  Other resorts offer skiing and snowboarding to children under 12 for only $10 per day, whilst some will offer discounts in room rates, restaurants, and ski lessons for kids.

For the kids as well as yourself, don’t try to buy all the necessary clothes and equipment; ask around to neighbours, friends, and family and see what you can borrow instead. If that doesn’t work, look into buying them second-hand and much cheaper at car boot sales or charity shops.

If finding and making all such budget plans for your upcoming ski holiday is just too difficult to contemplate, you can contact a tour operator about ski packages that will easily fit your budget and leave you with peace of mind because you don’t have to take the time to try to do it all yourself.
