Students can travel to destinations where passports are not required. However, if they wish to travel to foreign destination, then the passport is a must. You have to apply for a visit visa too. You can approach the travel agents for details of the same. They will be able to guide you. However, some amount of care has to be taken while travelling.
Before you travel, you have to make sure about the visa requirements of each country you would be visiting. You can get the details of the same from the consulate of the country you plan to visit. Another thing that you have to do is have two or more Xerox copies of your passport. You can leave one at home with your near and dear, and others you must carry with you. This would be useful if you lose your passport while travelling.
Some Tips for Student Travelers
1. Before travelling, the students must go for a complete medical checkup. If you are visiting the African nations, then it is recommended to take vaccinations against malaria and yellow fever. Your travel agent will advise you regarding the same.
2. It is safe to carry money is in form of travelers checks. However, you may carry a small amount of local currency. If you have ATM card, make sure it can be used at International destinations also. It can be checked out with your bank.
3. Take students travel insurance. This will cover your medical expenses and other expenses in case of eventualities.
4. If you are over 21 years of age and possess driving license, you can rent a car for moving around. However, make sure that you learn the driving rules of the country to where you are heading. Stick to the traffic rules of the country and avoid rash driving. You may end up in trouble if you are caught.
5. Travel lightly. Two of the bags can be checked in and one bag can be carried with you. It never makes sense to carry excess luggage. If you planning for back packing, make sure to carry your sleeping bag and all the necessary equipments required. Take casual clothes along so that even if they’re spoilt, you don’t lose out on much. The clothes should be durable and should facilitate the cause of multi-utility clothing.
6. Eat lightly while travelling by air. It is best to go on fruit and vegetable diet. Avoid alcoholic drinks while in-flight. You should have water or fruit juice. To take pressure of the thighs use the foot rest. Use ear plugs to shut off engine noise.
7. Do not leave you back pack unattended. Keep your valuables and money in a secured place.
