Car Hire Tips

Car Hire: see the most on your holidays

The annual summer holiday is something that is budgeted for as much as Christmas presents and despite the current financial climate it seems that none of us are willing to relinquish our holidays. More families are booking their summer breaks around this time of year with thousands more already having made bookings over winter to get the best early bird deals on flights and hotels.

It used to be that you waited until the last minute to bag last minute deals but with the uncertainty with flight costs and the danger of a tour company going under many people would rather book now rather than leave it all to speculation about how much holidays will cost in a few months.

When you’re away though there’s one expense you should consider making and that’s car hire, quite often there is normally a lot for you to see and do when on holiday and unfortunately sometimes these things are not within walking distance of the resort and coach tours are fairly restrictive with times and not everyone’s cup of tea!

If you hire a car then you can make the most of your time away but also take your time and not have to worry about meeting back at the bus by a certain time. There are normally plenty of car hire firms dotted around popular tourist resorts as well as from the airports themselves. Once you have your car you’re free to go where you please whether it’s the water park for the kids or to a quiet hillside village for a break from the bustling coastal resorts.

The thing to be careful of when hiring cars is the same as when hiring a car in the UK, ensure you check the vehicle over and note any damage prior to leaving with the keys. There are occasionally stories of some unscrupulous car hire firms who try blaming the damage caused by previous drivers on you!

The other thing to bear in mind is the driving customs when abroad, depending on where you are travelling to you may be driving on the opposite side of the road and so you’ll have to take extra care at junctions as everything will be mirrored from what you are used to. Some European countries require you to carry extra equipment like a warning triangle and this is a legal requirement.

In general though by hiring a car you are able to get so much more out of your holidays and get to see so much more.
