Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

Where will tourists find the best selection of hotels in Lanzarote? Playa Blanca in the south of the island is Lanzarote´s newest resort and has been purpose built with hotels at the core of the blueprint. Ensuring that the majority of this accommodation is not only brand spanking new with modern amenities but also occupy enviable positions along the coastline. Affording great views across to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura.

A little over a twenty years ago Playa Blanca really was the archetypal sleepy fishing village. But as tourism took off and bookings for package holidays in Lanzarote soared in the UK the area became a magnet for hotel groups and property developers. Thanks to the fact that the area enjoys the best microclimate on Lanzarote, as well as boasting some of the most beautiful beaches in the Canaries, most noticeably at nearby Papagayo (or Parrot Beach).

As a result new hotels have been springing up in Playa Blanca in profusion over the last decade – making the resort the number one choice for anyone planning a hotel based holiday on the island.

There are in fact seventeen hotels in Playa Blanca for visitors to choose from. With the Sol Melia groups Gran Volcan the sole five star offering. Although for many it is closely matched in style and comfort by the more boutique-like offering of the Caja de Ambassador – which are a collection of former fisherman’s houses that were bought up and restored by a former diplomat in the 1960´s. And which enjoy a great location close to the heart of the resort.

The bulk of visitors to Playa Blanca will find themselves staying in one of the many new four star hotels. Such as the H10 group’s popular Lanzarote Princess – which is located just 300 metres walk from the family friendly beach at Playa Dorada. And which boasts 407 rooms – all of them well appointed with facilities such as satellite TV, mini bars and air conditioning.

Or the more recently built Papagayo Arena, which was opened in 2003 and which enjoys a great location as the closest hotel to the beaches at Papagayo. Just 600 metres walk away. This impressive hotel comprises eight accommodation blocks. All revolving around the central hub of the “Blue Village” – which is home to a number of different restaurants, bars and shops as well as an onsite disco.

At the other end of the resort lies the popular Natura Palace – which blends Canarian with modern architectural styles, creating a comfortable hotel with a great seafront location. Accommodation prices here start from as little as €80 per room per night.
